Welcome to kindergarten in Room 259!  My name is Mrs. Putt.  I am very happy to be your child's kindergarten teacher and I  hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one.  Kindergarten is an exciting year in which your child will learn many, many things.   It is also a year of transition, and each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills when he is developmentally ready.

With this in mind, I would like to remind you that you were your child's first teacher, and he will continue to look to you for guidance and support along the way.  Many homework assignments will be sent home with your child and I strongly encourage you to monitor and/or assist your child on a regular basis.   Homework should not take any longer than 10-15 minutes.  If your child consistently exceeds this time, please contact me so we can discuss possible solutions.  Furthermore, please read to your child everyday if possible.  The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom.

Similarly, we need to keep in mind that working together is the key to your child's success.  We are an important team: you, me and your child!  The more you and I contribute to our roles in the learning process, the more your child will benefit.  Sometimes, it is as simple as a moment of positive attention or a few words of praise.  No matter how small something may seem, it is very important to your child—let's help build a strong and secure foundation for your child to grow academically.

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to a great year!!
