    My Kid is Sick!!! What Do I Do???

    In order to maintain a high standard of wellness in Fort Cherry School District, there must be cooperation between, parents, teachers, doctors and nurses.  The following suggestions will help you do your part in keeping your child's school a healthy place.

     

    1)  If your child shows any symptoms of illness, (fever, sore throat, swollen glands, vomiting, rash, aching muscles), please keep him or her home and see the doctor as needed.  A sick child is not learning anything in school and the well children are being exposed to unwanted germs.

    2)  Teach your child to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or an elbow.  Throw used tissues away promptly and encourage frequent handwashing.

    3)  Have your child drink plenty of clear liquids such as water, broth or electrolyte beverages.  If there is vomiting, limit the child's drinking to small, frequent sips until the vomiting is under control.
    4)  Get plenty of rest.
    5)  Do not return your child to school following an illness until (s)he has fully recovered.  If your child comes back too soon, his or her body’s resistance will be low and (s)he will be more likely to contract another illness.
    6)  A child should be kept at home for at least 24 hours after (s)he has recovered from vomiting and/or a fever.
