    2023 CyberCamp in person on Pitt's main campus
    from June 19-23!

    Each year, Pitt Cyber, in partnership with Pitt Information Technology, hosts the Air Force Association CyberCamp. This week-long camp is free and open to high school students from the Pittsburgh area and teaches cybersecurity principles, skills, and future career opportunities.
    The Air Force Association CyberCamp is designed for a range of technical skill levels, including introductory digital literacy, and is focused on systems security and cyber ethics.

    Pittsburgh-area high schoolers entering 9th grade through graduating 12th grade are eligible to participate. The camp is free and registration is done on a first-come, first-served basis. 

    The camp will be held in-person from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday-Friday.

    The CCBC High School Academies provide a pathway for students interested in aviation, education, STEM, criminal justice, and more.  
    March 15
    th is an opportunity for parents and students to learn more about these new offerings through CCBC.  Even if your students are not in close proximity to the IU1 McMurray Campus, there are also online course options available this fall. Those interested are encouraged to attend this informational session to learn more. To register, please scan the QR code on the attached flyer

    Camp Tech is a summer camp for students entering grades 3-8 in the fall of 2023. Students will explore science, technology, engineering, math, computer science and more with new and innovative technology! This summer there will be both virtual and a face-to-face option available for students!

    This face to face Camp Tech will be held at W&J College and Waynesburg University. Students who attend the onsite camp will be required to follow CDC guidelines and those recommended by the college/ university. Cleaning supplies and hand sanitizers will be available for teachers and students. Mask breaks (for students who choose to wear a mask) and time outside (weather dependent) will be scheduled throughout the day.

    CSI Camp

    Waynesburg University's CSI Camp provides an irreplaceable hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers in forensic science and criminal justice. Camp will
    enable students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of forensic topics and allow them to make valuable connections with professionals and fellow peers in the field. Students will have the opportunity to train with and learn from certified experts in
    a small group setting. Students entering 11th grade, 12th grade, or who are spring 2023 high school graduates are eligible to attend CSI Camp from June 12, 2023 to June 16, 2023. More information and registration links are available here.

    Waynesburg University STEAM Academy

    The STEAM Academy is designed to promote learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics and is open to high school students of all ages. The great thing about the Academy is that all learning will be facilitated through hands-on activities designed to engage students' minds and to keep them active throughout its duration.  

    This learning opportunity is open to high school students entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and 2023 high school graduates.

    Career Exploration Day for 8th grade students:

    8th grade students were introduced to program opportunities available through Parkway West Career & Technical Center. On Thursday, December 8th, students saw a presentation and were invited to attend Career Exploration Day at Parkway, in the morning on Friday, January 13th. More information, including an opt-out form, is being sent home with students prior to the winter break or is available here.

    Rising juniors and seniors in high school have the opportunity to experience a world-class education on a beautiful, vibrant college campus. Our programs prepare them for their upcoming college experience, help them narrow their career focus, and build critical knowledge and skills.

    Pre-College Programs* - Summer of 2023
     
    • Architecture: Introduces design practice, creative problem solving, and critical thinking through a matrix of programming, celebrating curiosity and providing a strong foundation for architectural education. (4-week program)

    • Art: Uses both traditional tools and cutting-edge technologies to explore creative ideas in a college-level studio environment. Students develop both conceptual and technical skills, preparing them for a wide range of opportunities in both art studies and careers. (3- and 6-week program options)

    • Computational Biology: Provides extensive training in both cutting-edge laboratory experiments to generate biological data and the computational analysis of that data. Uses real-world scenarios for exploration. (3-week program)

    • Design: Introduces students to the discipline of Design, provides a foundation of skills, and gives a clear idea of what to expect from a college-level accredited program. (6-week program)

    • Drama: Prepares students for the college audition and interview process, illustrating the kind of creativity and discipline required of students studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts Drama curriculum. Students will be introduced to the intensity of a top-rated undergraduate conservatory experience. (6-week program)
       
    • Music: Immerses high school students in a world-class conservatory experience within an internationally recognized university. The program mirrors the first weeks of Carnegie Mellon’s first-year undergraduate School of Music curriculum. (3- and 6-week program options, commuter part-time option)

    • National High School Game Academy: Allows high school students to experience modern video game development using industry-standard technology. Students interested in artmusic and audiogame design, and software development are encouraged to apply for this multidisciplinary program. (6-week program)

    • Summer Session: Provides high school students with the opportunity to take summer courses offered by Carnegie Mellon. Students earn college credit while working in an academic setting that mirrors the supportive, rigorous environment of the first year of college. (6-week program)

    • Writing & Culture: Storytelling is the process of uncovering, understanding, and sharing stories. Whether through words or images, stories unite us and help create a mutual space for understanding ourselves and each other. That’s what the Pre-College Writing & Culture program works to develop: skilled, reflective, engaged storytellers who can share our stories well. (6-week program)

    Fully-Funded, Merit-Based* Pre-College Programs - Summer of 2023
     
    • AI Scholars: Provides opportunities for students who have historically been excluded in STEM to study artificial intelligence with full-time faculty, staff, and researchers who are leaders in the field. (4-week program, rising seniors only)
       
    • Computer Science Scholars: Provides students who have historically been excluded in the field of computer science an opportunity to explore the subject with full-time faculty, staff and researchers who are leaders in the field.  (4-week program, rising juniors only)
    • Summer Academy for Math and Science:  Allows students from underrepresented communities to develop a deeper understanding of STEM via traditional classroom instruction, hands-on projects, and sustained engagement with world-renowned faculty and skilled staff mentors. (5-week program, rising seniors only)

    Western Area CTC building tour for 9th grade students:

    Wednesday, January 4th

    We will leave FC around 8:40 and return by 11:15 am

    All 9th grade students who are not currently attending CTC are encouraged to attend this informational tour. Anyone who does not wish to attend must have a parent or guardian complete this opt-out form and return it to the office prior to January 4th.

    9th grade students had an informational assembly on November 4th, from Western Area Career and Technical Center. A tour date to learn more about programs offered at Western Area CTC will be offered in the next few weeks. More information about the programs offered to students starting in 10th grade at WACTC can be found here. Programs offered include: Auto Mechanics, Automation & Robotics Engineering Technology, Carpentry, Collision Repair Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts/ Baking, Electrical Occupations, Emergency & Protective Services, Health Assistant, Heating & Air Conditioning, Machine Shop, Masonry, Networking, Rehabilitation Aide, and Welding

    Students in grades 11 & 12 have been invited to attend several college and career fairs this fall. So far, our students have visited: Penn West on October 18, 2022, Moon High School on October 28, 2022, and most recently Bentworth High School on 11/3/22.
