My name is Denise Lander and I am the kindergarten teacher in Room 259. This is my first year to teach kindergarten, though, I have been teaching at Fort Cherry for 31 years. I am looking forward to an exciting year as your child's kindergarten teacher. Your child will learn many things throughout this year. It is a year of transformation and transition. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills when he/she is developmentally ready.
The theme in my classroom this year is CATERPILLARS TO BUTTERFLIES..."Watch us Transform, Spread our Wings, and Fly."
You were your child's first teacher. They will continue to need you...looking to you for guidance and support along the way. Homework assignments will be sent home with your child, and I encourage you to monitor and/or assist your child on a regular basis. Homework should not take any longer than 10-15 minutes. If your child consistently exceeds this time, please contact me so we can discuss possible solutions. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom. Please read to your child every day if possible.
Working together is the key to your child's success this year. We are an important team: you, me, and your child! The more you and I contribute to our roles in the learning process, the more your child will benefit. Sometimes it is as simple as a moment of positive attention or a few words of praise. No matter how small something may seem, it is very important to your child--let's help build a strong and secure foundation for your child to grow academically.
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to a great year.
