For a small school, Fort Cherry High School offers big opportunities. Students have access to 11 Advanced Placement and/or College in the High School courses, allowing them to gain advanced standing at colleges and universities across the country. Despite declining district enrollment, enrollment in rigorous AP and CHS courses has never been higher.
Additionally, Fort Cherry hosts two Career and Technical Center (CTC) programs in its high school (General Agriculture and Horticulture), as well as the opportunity to attend programming at Western Area CTC and Parkway West CTC. Nearly 25% of the high school population graduates with CTC training.
Fort Cherry hosts a wide array of elective classes, allowing students to explore their interests that either provide valuable experiences or could articulate into a career.
Curriculum
In Fall 2025, Fort Cherry is beginning a massive overhaul of its curriculum, using the Understanding by Design framework that begins with the vision of what a graduate from Fort Cherry should know and be able to do upon graduation. This vision is then backmapped across all courses from 12th grade to Kindergarten to ensure that students have an adequate opportunity to reach this vision.
Along with updated curriculum maps, the District will also adopt new pacing guides to determine when portions of the curriculum are taught and common assessments that are designed to measure student progress against both our curriculum and state standards. Students who need additional assistance will have access to before, during, and/or after school tutoring and/or remediation to fill gaps and help students meet our high expectations.
